Samuel J. “Chip” Asbury, IV founded Asbury Management Group, Inc. in 2005 after completing a successful 27 year career in retail banking and consumer credit, providing executive leadership/management at four national banks. Chip’s extensive consumer lending experience included ten years in various positions with First Union Corporation, concluding with his executive leadership at whollyowned Capitol Finance Group, Inc., where he served as President. Capitol Finance had seventeen subsidiaries, including a 54 branch consumer finance company, a mortgage company, an equipment leasing company, and an insurance company.
Chip additionally served on First Union Corporation’s Expanded Management Committee.
In addition, Chip served five years as Operational Vice President of Aristar, Inc. (a Great Western Bank subsidiary) overseeing 60 consumer finance branches, and seven years as Senior Vice President /Operational Vice President of Washington Mutual Finance (a Washington Mutual Bank subsidiary) with oversight of the operations of 68 consumer finance offices having over $500mm in consumer and mortgage loans outstanding, employing over 500 employees, and generating $20mm in annual pretax profit. Prior to starting AMG, Chip served as Regional Manager for CitiFinancial, a subsidiary of Citigroup.
Chip’s extensive consumer lending background has enabled him to successfully build a consumer finance company that combines and balances credit risk management with consumer demand, and portfolio management. Chip created AMG’s performance management program that rewards employees for exceptional performance.
Chip earned a Master’s in Business Administration, a B.A. in Business Administration, and a B.A. in Economics from Pfeiffer University. Additionally, Chip was conferred a Doctorate of Humane Letter honoris causa by Pfeiffer University. Chip currently serves on the Executive Committee/Board of Directors for the South Carolina Financial Services Association, the Board of Directors for the Kentucky Financial Services Association, as the past Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Pfeiffer University, the Executive Committee for the Pfeiffer Board of Trustees, and is the past Chairman of the Finance Committee of Matthews United Methodist Church.
Chip is a past board member of the American Financial Services AssociationIndependents Section advisory board, and was one of the founders of Matthews Alive!, a nonprofit community services organization. Chip has been extensively involved in the past with many other industry associations and community groups.
