President and Chief Executive Officer

Samuel J. “Chip” Asbury, IV founded Asbury Management Group, Inc. in 2005 following a successful twenty-seven year career in retail banking and consumer credit, providing executive leadership at four national banks. Chip brings a wealth of experience in consumer lending, with a notable ten-year tenure at First Union Corporation. Chip held several key positions, culminating in his role as President of Capitol Finance Group, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary offering consumer finance, mortgage, equipment leasing, and insurance services. Additionally, Chip was a member of the First Union Corporation Expanded Management Committee

Chip’s career includes five years as Operational Vice President of Aristar, Inc. (a Great Western Bank subsidiary), seven years as Senior Vice President of Washington Mutual Finance, and one year with CitiFinancial, a subsidiary of Citigroup.

Chip’s extensive consumer lending background enabled him to successfully build a company that effectively integrates credit risk and loan portfolio management with consumer demand. Chip created AMG’s performance management program that rewards employees for exceptional performance.

Chip holds an MBA, a B.A. in Business Administration, and a B.A. in Economics from Pfeiffer University, where he was also awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters. Currently Chip is enrolled in the two-year Owner/President Management program at Harvard Business School, with an expected completion date of April 2025.

Chip has been extensively involved in professional and community organizations and currently serves on the Executive Committee/Board of Directors for the South Carolina Financial Services Association and the Georgia Installment Lenders Association board.

Previously he was Chair of the Board of Trustees at Pfeiffer University and led the Executive Committee. He was Chair of the Board of Matthews United Methodist Church, and a past board member of the American Financial Services Association Independents Section advisory board. Chip was one of the founders of Matthews Alive!, a non­profit community services organization and has been engaged with numerous other industry associations and community groups.
